A walk in sunny Kyoto in fall #4: Kuramaguchi.
It is known for its nostalgic cafes, public baths, and artistic stores with stylish accessories. Got off at Kuramaguchi Station on the Kyoto subway. In the Heian period, the street was the boundary of city and outside.
As soon as entered Kuramaguchi Dori, saw the remains of "Ohanabatake House", the residence of Komatsu Taitewaki, an executive of the Satsuma clan, where the Satsuma-Choshu alliance was signed on January 21, 1866. Cafe Frangipani's storefront. Its historical documents just found in 2016.
Kept going west. The road to Mt. Funaoka continues.
Crossing Horikawa Dori, found the nearly 80-year-old cafe "Sarasa Nishijin". The café was renovated from a former Fujinomori hot spring bath, and the public bath tiles gave it a retro flavor.
There were many coffee shops and restaurants in the vicinity.
Stopped by the boulangerie "Tom Sawyer" on the way. A bakery highly rated and loved by the locals.
Bought some chestnut maritozzo and chestnut Anpan bread as they looked delicious. The next morning, had them for breakfast. The dough, toppings such as almonds, and sweetness were all well balanced and perfect for waking up. Realized again that the level of bakeries in Kyoto was high.
In front of the store was the approach to "Imamiya Shrine". The last time visited the shrine, enjoyed Aburi Mochi rice cakes.
Further on, there was the entrance to the "Funaoka Onsen" public bath. It retained the atmosphere of the Taisho and Showa eras.
Funaoka Onsen started business in 1923 as a public bath attached to Funaoka-ro, a two-story wooden ryokan hotel, and the second generation introduced Japan's first electric bath in 1933, which was registere as a "Special Funaoka Onsen," and began operating as a public bath in 1947, shortly after the war.
Nearby was the approach to "Kenkun Shrine". Over there was Mt. Funaoka.
Kenkun Shrine on top of Mt. Funayoka, was dedicated to Oda Nobunaga, the war time warrior in the 1500s. It was a nostalgic stroll along Kuramaguchi Dori.
