(Kyoto-81/Wagokoro Izumi)日本美味しいもの巡り Japan delicious food and wine tour

ランチは、今回の京都ステイで楽しみにしていた会席・懐石料理の名店「和ごころ泉」を初訪問。小さな不明門通り(あけずどおり)沿いにある。

かつてこの地にあった名割烹「桜田」が閉店した後、一番弟子だった泉氏が想いを引き継いでオープンさせた名料亭。

The first visit to "Wagokoro Izumi", a famous kaiseki restaurant that was looking forward to visiting during the stay in Kyoto.  It is located on a small street called Akezudori.
After the famous kappou restaurant "Sakurada", located in the same place, closed, Mr. Izumi, its top disciple, continued the same policy and opened this famous restaurant.

中に入ると満席。人気の程が伺える。お盆に乗せたナプキンに「和ごころ泉」の文字。

When entered, the place was packed.  Could see how popular it was.  The words "Wagokoro Izumi" on a napkin on a tray.

ワインリストは、少々高めのフランスワイン中心の品揃え。あいにく和食に合う日本ワインは見当たらない。

The wine list had a bit expensive and mainly French wines.  Unfortunately, couldn't find any Japanese wines that would go well with Japanese foods.

次に日本酒のリスト。コロナの影響で1合を半分ずつのグラスに分けてくれる。別銘柄でも可。〆張鶴(新潟宮尾酒造)、まるたけえびす(洛中佐々木酒造)、和ごころ泉(城陽酒造)、英勲(伏見齊藤酒造)の4種を半合ずつ楽しむ。

A list of sake.  Due to the Covid influence, they divided a full glass of sake into half glasses.  Different brands were also available.  So could enjoy four different kinds of sake, half a glass each: Shimeharitsuru (Niigata Miyao Brewery), Marutake Ebisu (Kyoto Sasaki Brewery), Wagokoro Izumi (Joyo Brewery), and Eikun (Fushimi Saito Brewery).

先付。柿のなます。

Sakiduke, an appetizer.  Vinegared persimmon.

椀物。海老しんじょうと自家製厚揚げのお椀。

Wanmono, a soup bowl.  A bowl with shrimp Shinjyo and homemade thick fried tofu.

向付。北海道のマグロと明石のぶり稚魚(しお)のお造り。しおは塩で、とアドバイス

Mukozuke, a sashimi.  Sashimi of tuna from Hokkaido and young yellowtail (shio) from Akashi.  Was advised to use salt for the shio.

八寸。中央がこちらの名物・卵カステラ。

Hassun a variety dish.  In the center was their specialty, egg sponge cake.

煮物。かぶらと小芋の焚き物。炊き加減が絶妙過ぎて感動。小芋は、山形の甚五右ヱ門芋(じんごえもんいも)。調べると、室町時代から受け継がれた伝承野菜なのだという。しみじみ滋味深い。

Nimino, simmered turnips and small potatoes.  So impressed with how well it was cooked.  The small potatoes are Jingoemon potatoes from Yamagata.  According to the research, it is a historic vegetable that has been passed down since the Muromachi period.  It was delicious.

食事。新米を土鍋で炊いた、艶々のご飯。びっくりするほど美味しい。おかわりをグッと我慢して、お持ち帰りの塩むすびにして貰う。また今夜頂こう。美味しいご飯は冷めると旨味が更に増すので、楽しみに。

Shokuju, rice cooked in a clay pot with new rice.  It was surprisingly delicious.  Held out for a second helping of rice, and got some salted musubi to take home.  Would have another one tonight.  Good rice tastes even better when it's cold, so look forward to it.

水菓子。柿と葡萄とキャラメルプリン。ブランデー入りのキャラメルソースが後を引く甘さ。

Mizugashi, deserts.  Persimmons, grape and caramel pudding.  The brandy flavored caramel sauce was sweet enough to leave a lasting impression.

さすがミシュラン2つ星店のランチ。大変美味しかった。ご馳走さまでした。

Lunch at a two-star Michelin restaurant.  As expected, it was very delicious.  Thank you for the meal.
