Went to the "Hyotei" Annex in front of Nanzenji Temple to have breakfast porridge. Hyotei has been loved by politicians since the Meiji Restoration, cultural figures and businessmen of the Taisho and Showa periods, and Kyoto's masters.
Made a reservation for the annex, but by mistake almost entered the main building in front of it. The corridors were like a maze.
Went back to the annex, about 10 meters away.
As soon as enter, there was a beautiful courtyard.
Took a seat facing the courtyard.
A half-boiled egg, a specialty of Hyotei, was served with kombu-jime.
The three tiers were in the shape of gourds, the symbol of Hyotei.
The lower boiled vegitables.
Top (left): boiled red pepper, middle (right): vinegared white fish and mozuku seaweed.
A bowl of warm tofu soup.
An additional dish ordered was grilled ayu sweetfish.
And rice porridge and pickles. It was served with kuzu sauce.
Enjoyed the taste and atmosphere of a long-established restaurant and was very satisfied. Thank you for the meal.
