8月の雨の朝、朝粥を頂きに、東山の美濃吉本店「竹茂楼」へ。毎年8月いっぱい夏の風物詩「朝茶膳」が供される。

静寂な個室と椅子席が嬉しい。お部屋からは竹林、奥には小さな滝も楽しめる、瑞々しく素敵な空間。小雨降る中、清められた和室で迎える朝は格別。

On a rainy morning in August, went to "Takeshigero", Minokichi's main restaurant in Higashiyama, to have morning porridge.  Every year throughout the month of August, the restaurant serves "morning porridge set", a summer tradition.
Happy to find a quiet private room and chair seating.  From the room, could enjoy a bamboo grove and a small waterfall in the back, a fresh and wonderful space.  It was a cool morning with a lot of traditional elegance in a light rain.  Nice to have a quiet Japanese room.

まず、胡麻豆腐(左)、三段重(中)、梅(右)。

First, sesame tofu (left), a three-tiered pile (middle), and plums (right).

三段重:

(上段:和物) 鱧、胡瓜、茗荷、糸瓜、紫蘇、梅肉だし

(中段:焼菜) 京都産の賀茂茄子田楽 白味噌

(下段:焚き合わせ) 南瓜、小芋、ささげ、ずいき、蒟蒻 、鷹ヶ峰唐辛子、すだれ麩、柚子

Three-tiered jute:
(Top: Japanese food) Hamo, cucumber, myoga, itoura, shiso, ume plum broth.
(Middle: grilled vegetables)Kyoto Kamo eggplant dengaku with white miso
(bottom: simmered vegetables) pumpkin, small potato, sasage, tsukii, konnyaku, Takagamine pepper, fu, yuzu

焼八寸:

鰻寿し、いちじく胡麻和え、酢取り蓮根、枝豆、線香出し巻き玉子、鮎一夜干し

鮎ははらわたがきれいに取られ代わりに味噌が塗られている。良い香りと食感。いちじくには胡麻が合う。

Grilled dish and appetizers:
eel sushi, fig with sesame paste, vinegared lotus root, edamame, egg roll with incense, dried ayu fish
The guts of the ayu fish was removed and miso has been applied instead.  Good aroma and texture. The figs went well with sesame seeds.

お粥膳と香の物:

(粥) 鰻かゆ 貝割れ大根  葛あん 梅干し

(赤だし) 夏わらび  三つ葉 粉山椒

(香物) 大根 胡瓜 茄子 しば漬 奈良漬

葛あんで頂くお粥は体に染み渡る美味しさ。

香物は、添えられた生姜が良いアクセントに。真似しよう。

A porridge dish and a side dish:

(Porridge) eel and rice porridge with radish, kuzu starch and pickled plum

(Red miso soup) summer bracken, mitsuba, powdered Japanese pepper

(Pickles) radish, cucumber, eggplant, shibazuke and pickles

The ginger garnish was a good accent.  Will try to copy it.

川魚料理を起源とし京料理と融合した美濃吉竹茂楼の朝茶膳を堪能。つかず離れずで心温まる素晴らしいサービスにも大感激。お庭を眺めながらおよそ2時間かけて頂く、ゆったりした贅沢で幸せな朝だった。

ご馳走さまでした。

The morning porridge set at Minokichi Takeshigero, originated from river fish cuisine and fused with Kyoto cuisine.  It was wonderful.  Very impressed with the warm-hearted and excellent service.  It was a relaxing, luxurious, and happy morning that took about two hours to enjoy while looking at the garden.
