Went to Manza Beach on a weekend afternoon.
The early summer sea in Okinawa has just opened. The water was clear and emerald green like a jewel, and was a bit cool, so swimming in it was refreshing and pleasant. Glad to come.
The beach in Onna Village on the way was also beautiful.
On the way back, went to Genkichi Genkawa, a Ryukyu glass studio in Yomitan Village. Mr. Genkichi Genkawa, a Ryukyu glass craftsman, has been involved in Ryukyu glass making since 1961 and has won many awards. The current studio was established in 2010.
Half a century of breathing his hearts into Ryukyu glass. The glasswares are simple, with bubbles remaining in the glass, but still evokes the glittering sea of Okinawa. The glasswares for summer are a little "Showa" retro and nostalgic, but the shape is modern and easy to hold.
Went back to the hotel and had some Orion draft beer and white wine.
Canned Orion beers. On the left is "The Draft," brewed with barley from Iyejima Island and Yanbaru water. On the right is "75," an IPA-type beer brewed with shekwasha from Nago. 75 can also be read as "Nago," where Orion Beer's brewery is located. Orion Beer became an really Okinawan-style beer company.
Next was an Altbier from WOLF BRÄU, a local craft beer in Shuri Town. A strong beer in the style of Dusseldorf, Germany.
For dinner, grilled Yamashiro Beef. Okinawa produces delicious beef such as Ishigaki beef or Motobu beef, both are really delicious. On the side were locally produced island tofu and green beans.
The wine paired it with was a Syrah Grenache red from Languedoc that bought at Granato in Shuri Town. It had a gentle flavor that went well with the meat dish. It was a delicious evening.
