Strolled through Higashiyama, east Kyoto, under the fresh sunlight of the new year (spring) day, "Risshun", the next day of "Setsubun". "Road of philosophy" near Ginkakuji temple. A quiet ancient city with sparse tourists.
Anrakuji Temple known with beautiful spring flowers and autumn leaves. Now closed.
Reikanji temple known with beautiful camellia. A temple with female monks from imperial family. A special visit to the facility was held.
Visited Toyokuni shrine for the first time.
A shrine protected by a cute little mice. This year's zodiac is rat so this became very popular.
The national treasure Nanzenji Hojo, a Zen temple. Nanzenji is the exceptional temple located above Kyoto and Kamakura Gozan (top 5 temples each), and is the highest rank among all Zen temples in Japan.
Usually crowded with tourist groups, but quiet today.

Lunch at Kyoto cuisine "Minokichi". Ornament paper designed for the demon extermination at Yoshida Shrine, which recently visited on Setsubun day.

On "Risshun" morning (February 4), "Risshun Asa Shibori" (sake brewed on Risshun morning) is released to local restaurants and liquor shops. This year, 44 brewers nationwide participate. In recent years, it became popular and difficult to obtain. Celebrated New Year by purchasing the bottles as well as enjoying it at a restaurant in the evening.
