In the morning visited Kitano Tenmangu shrine in the northwest. A shrine dedicated to Dr. Michizane Sugawara (the genius researcher and official 1200 years ago).
A shrine dedicated to Dr. Michizane Sugawara's "mother". Apparently she was the very aggressive education mom. One of Kyoto Sanchin (3 unique) Toriis.
Both red and white plum flowers were blooming on the same tree.
"Setsubun"'s sacrid ritual began at 10 am.
Priests walked into the main shrine building.
In the afternoon, the stage of Kagura-den would feature "Kyogen" performance by Shigeyama & company, dance devotion by Kamishichiken Kabukai, and bean throwing. The event would be very crowded.
On the way back, purchased Kitano Tenmangu's specialty, "Chogoro Mochi (rice cakes)" and Setsubun "Fukumame (happy beans)".
Stoped at Senbon Shakado temple on the way back.
Here too, there would be Setsubun Kyogen performance by Shigeyama & company in the afternoon.
The old main hall of Senbon Shakado temple is the oldest wooden building in the city area of Kyoto. About 800 years old.
Returned to the hotel for lunch at Szechuan restaurant.
After main dishes enjoyed deserts.
